Product review: Black Diamond Double Diamond soft shell jacket (cedar heather)

Black Diamond's claim: "Our soft shell jackets are engineered to offer exceptional weather protection, breathability and stretch." We will be putting to the test this weekend.

I needed a soft shell jacket for hiking and camping, so I purchased this jacket at Costco for $29.99.
When inspecting the jacket it seems well made and a great value.  Having never used any Black Diamond products before I had no prior experience.   For the price I was willing to take a chance and try it out.

So here is what you get:
Fabric face- 100% Polyester
Fabric back- 100% Polyester velboa warp knit laminated with breathable film
Water repellant
YKK zippers
Full length wind flap
Zippered Pockets
Mediapocket
Velcro wrist cuffs

I will be using the jacket this weekend to see how it holds up. Follow up post to come.

  2. Just got one for 20$ No reason not to buy it. Very thin material with a pretty cheap feeling lining. Not fleece but something else. Anyway the thin softshell material is pretty nice to the touch and it seems like even though its thin its should hold up pretty nice. I kinda wish they skipped the lining inside because it could be a great 4 season beat em up everyday shell. It doesnt have a hood which is great so its useful for layering. I think this is going to be a great shell for activities where you dont want to get your other gear messed up. Like my salomon softshell I wear to school and got clay on!

    BUY ONE!

  3. 6 months later & this jacket is still going strong. I've use it on numerous outings. Well worth the money spent.
